Election Commission confirms all 25 nomination centres are fully prepared for Sabah state polls nomination day across 73 state seats

KOTA KINABALU: All 25 nomination centres for the 17th Sabah State Election are fully prepared for tomorrow’s nomination process across 73 state seats.

Election Commission chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun inspected preparations at Dewan Sri Putatan, the nomination centre for Tanjung Keramat, Tanjung Aru and Petagas seats.

He confirmed all centres have completed logistics, internet connectivity and returning officer training.

“Based on what I observed, the rehearsal went smoothly,” Ramlan told reporters.

In Tawau, assistant returning officer Jonah Pitah said Tawau Community Hall preparations for Balung, Apas and Sri Tanjong seats were running well.

“Work arrangements, facilities and security measures are in place,” he said, noting police and Rela personnel are assisting with traffic control and safety.

In Kinabatangan, final preparations at Dewan Sri Lamag for Kuamut, Lamag and Sukau seats are complete with about 40 election workers involved.

Returning officer Yuseri Ismail Yusof said election workers will be at the nomination centre from 7 am tomorrow.

“Candidates are advised to submit their forms between 9 am and 10 am,” he said after a smooth rehearsal conducted at 10 am today.

District police chief Supt Ravi Duraisamy confirmed candidates’ representatives have been briefed on rules and procedures.

In Semporna, returning officer Mas Syazwan Masood reported 34 sets of nomination forms have been sold so far.

“Some candidates buy two or three sets as backup,” he said after a rehearsal at Semporna Community Arena.

Acting Semporna police chief DSP Jaafar Hakim said nearly 300 officers from various units will be deployed tomorrow.

Party supporters will be confined to the Semporna district council field and separated to prevent untoward incidents.

The Election Commission has set November 29 as polling day and November 25 for early voting.

A total of 1,784,843 electors are eligible to cast their ballots, including 1,760,417 regular electors, 11,697 military personnel and spouses, and 12,729 police personnel and spouses. – Bernama
