Selangor authorities urge public to avoid open burning during hot weather after a 37-acre hillside fire, warning of environmental and health risks.
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government has issued a stern reminder to the public against conducting open burning, particularly during the current hot and dry spell.
State Public Health and Environment Committee chairman Jamaliah Jamaluddin warned that such actions can easily cause fires to spread and trigger larger blazes.
She said irresponsible burning not only damages the environment but also jeopardises public health and community safety.
“The public is also encouraged to immediately report any open burning activities or fire incidents to the authorities so that prompt action can be taken,” she said in a statement.
Jamaliah confirmed the state is monitoring a recent hillside forest fire in Puncak Jalil, Seri Kembangan.
The fire, which broke out yesterday, involved an area of approximately 37 acres.
According to a report from the state Fire and Rescue Department, firefighting operations were conducted continuously since yesterday evening.
Several fire stations were involved, including those from Seri Kembangan, Cyberjaya, Puchong, Jalan Penchala, and Subang Jaya.
The fire was successfully extinguished in the early hours of the morning.
The firefighting operation concluded at 3.48 am today with no reported casualties or damage to building structures.
It was also confirmed that the affected area was located outside the permanent forest reserve zone.
Jamaliah expressed her deep appreciation and gratitude to the fire department personnel for their tireless efforts.
She said their commitment and dedication were crucial in quickly controlling the situation and preventing the fire from spreading.
“The state government will continue to work closely with the relevant agencies to monitor the situation and ensure that preventive measures are strengthened,” she added.
