All Malaysians evacuated from western Saudi Arabia conflict zones, with emergency operations room now closed as flights resume.
KUALA LUMPUR: No Malaysians remain stranded in western Saudi Arabia following a successful evacuation operation from West Asian conflict zones.
The Consulate General of Malaysia in Jeddah confirmed the evacuation in a Facebook post, stating the operation successfully brought stranded citizens home.
Consequently, the 24-hour Operations Room activated after the regional conflict has now been closed.
“Considering the improving situation, with most airlines having resumed their services, the Consulate General of Malaysia in Jeddah hereby announces the closure of its 24-Hour Operations Room,” the consulate stated.
It added that Malaysians requiring consular assistance can still contact the consulate directly via phone or email.
On Wednesday, 163 Malaysians previously stranded in several West Asian countries safely arrived home.
The group consisted of umrah pilgrims from Saudi Arabia and citizens from Qatar, Jordan, and Syria affected by flight disruptions and airspace closures.
A Malaysia Airlines special chartered flight for the evacuation also included seven non-citizen family members.
On Thursday, another 179 Malaysians safely arrived home from Doha, Qatar under the same operation.
The group included 59 stranded Malaysians as well as residents of Qatar who had purchased their own flight tickets.
Filipinos, Australians and other nationals were also on board, taking connecting flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
