A technician in Johor Bahru has been sentenced to 18 years in prison and 24 strokes of the cane for trafficking infants and committing sexual offences against children.
JOHOR BAHRU: A technician was sentenced to a total of 18 years’ imprisonment and 24 strokes of the cane after pleading guilty to 10 charges related to baby trafficking and sexual offences against children.
Muhammad Imran Abdullah, 30, entered his plea before Sessions Court judges Mohd Zamir Suhaimee, Madinah Zainol and Nor Aziati Jaafar.
For trafficking two five-day-old baby girls and a seven-month-old boy for exploitation, he received 15 years’ jail on each of three charges under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act.
The offences occurred at various locations in Pasir Gudang between March and November 2024.
In a separate case, he was convicted of physically assaulting a five-year-old child and recording a video of the act.
Judge Madinah sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment and 12 strokes of the cane for these crimes committed in April 2024.
He also pleaded guilty to assaulting two other children, aged six and seven, and recording videos of the acts on the same day.
For these offences, Judge Nor Aziati imposed a sentence of 18 years’ jail and 12 strokes of the cane.
The court ordered all prison sentences to run concurrently, resulting in a final term of 18 years.
His imprisonment commenced from his date of arrest on July 19, 2025.
The court also mandated rehabilitation counselling during his incarceration and two years of police supervision upon his release.
During mitigation, the accused, a father of three, pleaded for leniency, citing family responsibilities and expressing remorse.
The judges emphasised that public interest and the severe trauma inflicted on the young victims outweighed his personal circumstances.
Deputy public prosecutors Nur Diyana Zubir, Nor Fadilah Johanuddin and Nur Farah Wahida Shahudin prosecuted the case.
The accused was represented by lawyers Mohamed Imran Mohamed Sam and Haziq Ishak.
