Zelensky to visit Spain for talks on Ukraine support

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will travel to Madrid this week for talks with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, marking his fourth visit to Spain since the 2022 invasion.

MADRID: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will travel to Madrid on Wednesday for talks with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, according to sources in the Spanish leader’s office.

The visit, which will include the signing of bilateral agreements and a joint news conference, is part of Zelensky’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to rally Western support.

It marks the Ukrainian leader’s fourth trip to Spain since Russia’s full-scale invasion began in February 2022.

During his last visit to Madrid in November, Zelensky secured a fresh Spanish military aid package worth 615 million euros.

Spanish Defence Minister Margarita Robles first announced the upcoming visit last week, stating, “We cannot forget Ukraine. Ukraine is there, Ukraine exists,” though she did not provide a specific date at the time.

The diplomatic engagement comes as the United States continues to push for a peace deal between Kyiv and Moscow, a process complicated by ongoing conflict in the Middle East which has derailed a planned third round of three-party talks.
