Local hero Hung Chien-yao held a slim lead at the US$400,000 Taiwan Glass Taifong Open after a two-under 70 on Saturday moved him to 16-under.
His advantage was cut to one shot by Thailand’s Ekpharit Wu, who charged up the leaderboard with a 65 that included a hole-in-one and an eagle.
Ekpharit, who started the day six shots back, made his ace on the par-three eighth and nearly holed out for albatross on the 17th before tapping in for eagle.
He heads into the final round at 15-under, while Sweden’s Charlie Lindh is third at 11-under and Thailand’s Sarut Vongchaisit is fourth at nine-under as all four chase their first Asian Tour win.
Hung, ranked 110th on the Order of Merit and fighting to keep his card, steadied himself after an even-par start through 12 holes and finished with three late birdies.
He said he focused on blocking out negative thoughts and hopes luck is on his side in the final round.
Ekpharit said he found his rhythm after a nervy start, feeling fully in control of his shots despite two bogeys. With his confidence high and his position strong, he plans to stay loose and simply enjoy the final day.
