Israeli troops shot dead a 15-year-old Palestinian in the West Bank amid clashes, with both sides offering conflicting accounts of the incident.
RAMALLAH: Israeli forces shot dead a Palestinian teenager during an operation in the occupied West Bank.
The Palestinian health ministry identified the victim as 15-year-old Adham Sayed Saleh Dahman.
He died from serious gunshot wounds sustained in the Dheisheh refugee camp south of Bethlehem. Palestinian news agency Wafa reported Dahman was shot in the abdomen during the Friday evening military raid.
Another Palestinian was wounded in the same incident. The Israeli military confirmed troops operated overnight in the Bethlehem area.
It stated a “violent riot developed” involving stone-throwing at soldiers. Troops “responded with riot dispersal means, including live fire, in response to the threat,” a military statement said.
The military confirmed one Palestinian was killed and another wounded. Violence in the West Bank has surged since the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack on Israel.
That attack triggered the ongoing war in Gaza. At least 1,054 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank since the Gaza war began.
This tally is based on Palestinian health ministry figures cited by AFP. Many of those killed were militants, but civilians have also died.
The deaths resulted from actions by Israeli soldiers or settlers. At least 46 Israelis have been killed in the West Bank in the same period.
Official Israeli data states these deaths occurred in Palestinian attacks or during military operations. The victims include both civilians and soldiers.
