Police confirm no seizures of strawberry quick candy alleged to contain drugs, dismissing viral social media posts as recycled misinformation
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have confirmed no seizures of so-called ‘strawberry quick’ candy, which was alleged to contain drugs, have been recorded nationwide.
Director of the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said this was confirmed after a thorough review by police and the Ministry of Education.
He said the image and warning message about the illicit substance had actually gone viral early last year and was now being recirculated on social media.
“The image is believed to be used to create concern among teenagers and parents to be more vigilant,” he said in a statement.
He added that spreading unverified information like this could cause anxiety within the community.
Earlier, a picture showing pink bear-shaped candy had gone viral, accompanied by claims it was a new type of drug targeting school students.
