A Japanese tank ammunition misfire during a military exercise has killed three soldiers and injured another, with the prime minister offering condolences.
OITA: An explosion inside a tank during a military exercise in southwestern Japan on Tuesday killed three soldiers and injured another, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi confirmed.
The unusual accident occurred at a Self-Defence Forces training ground in the Oita region when the tank’s ammunition misfired inside the vehicle, killing the three crew members on board.
The details of what caused the accident are currently under investigation, according to official statements.
“It is truly regrettable this happened,” Prime Minister Takaichi wrote, offering her “heartfelt condolences” to the victims.
