Malaysia’s agriculture minister emphasises the importance of close ties with Vietnam to secure stable food supplies amid global disruptions.
KUALA LUMPUR: Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu has underscored the critical importance of Malaysia’s relationship with Vietnam for ensuring national food security.
He stated that close bilateral ties are vital to maintaining a stable food supply for Malaysia amidst global shortages exacerbated by the West Asia conflict.
Mohamad Sabu is currently on a working visit to Vietnam with the objective of reinforcing the country’s role as a reliable trading partner.
The visit aims to secure steady supplies of rice and other key commodities for Malaysia.
“This visit is especially significant as the world grapples with a global supply crisis that’s disrupting food chains and price stability,” he said in a Facebook post.
He emphasised the need for a more proactive and strategic national approach to food security in the current climate. The minister expressed his commitment to strengthening international partnerships and diversifying supply sources.
“Insya-Allah, I’ll keep working to ensure our nation’s food supply stays stable, sufficient, and secure for everyone’s wellbeing,” Mohamad Sabu added.
Upon arrival in Hanoi, he was welcomed by Malaysia’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Datuk Tan Yang Thai, and his wife, Datin Akiko Morioka Tan.
