Pahang BN confident of retaining power in GE16

Pahang BN is confident of retaining its dominance in the state in the upcoming GE16, citing strong performance and public welfare initiatives.

ROMPIN: The Pahang Barisan Nasional (BN) is confident of retaining its dominance in the state in the upcoming 6th General Election (GE16), buoyed by what it describes as the strong performance and proven track record of the current state administration.

Pahang BN chairman and Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the state government’s consistent focus on public welfare, including various forms of assistance to ease the people’s burden, would be a key factor in voters’ assessment.

“The people will ultimately judge based on the state government’s performance. For instance, when the cost of living rose due to the West Asian crisis, the state government stepped in to provide food assistance to those affected,” he said.

Wan Rosdy said this when met after the handing over of house keys for the Pahang Pinggiran Pelangi 1Malaysia People’s Housing (PR1MA) and the launch of the Pahang Muadzam Shah PR1MA here today.

He was responding to remarks by Pahang Perikatan Nasional chairman Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who recently said the coalition was targeting 26 of the 42 state seats, as well as 10 parliamentary seats, in GE16.

Wan Rosdy, who is also an UMNO vice-president, said BN is unfazed by PN’s ambitions and would instead focus on working hard to secure as many seats as possible to retain control of the state government.

Meanwhile, a total of 102 out of 112 eligible recipients were present to receive the keys to their homes under Phase One of the Pinggiran Pelangi project.

Developed on 24.28 hectares of government land, the project received its Certificate of Completion and Compliance on March 19.

Overall, the development comprises 412 housing units with a total value of RM61.8 million, and is being implemented in four phases.
