JDT equals ASEC Mimosas’ world record of 108 unbeaten league matches after a stunning 14-1 win over Kelantan TRW in the Super League
KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) registered their biggest win this season by beating Kelantan The Real Warriors (TRW) 14-1 in their last Super League match of this season at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium tonight.
The win not only caps a stellar season for JDT, who won their 12th consecutive Super League title with an unbeaten run, but also matches the world record for most unbeaten league matches of 108 matches held by Ivory Coast club ASEC Mimosas since 1994.
JDT did not show any mercy to their opponents tonight, scoring eight goals in the first half and another six in the second, with only one goal replied.
Bergson Da Silva netted six goals, in the first minute, 11th, 36th, 41st, 52nd and the 83rd, to end his season with 27 goals, while Manuel Hidalgo scored a hattrick (16th, 25th, 62nd), teammates Antonio Glauder (18th), Stuart Wilkin (38th), Yago Cesar (50th), Mohamed Syamer Kutty Abba (85th) and Teto Martin (88th) scored a goal each while Kelantan TRW’s solitary goal came through Muhammad Farris Izdiham Awang Kechik in the 64th minute.
Meanwhile, Negeri Sembilan FC managed to hold Kuala Lumpur City FC to a dramatic 2-2 draw at Kuala Lumpur, Football Stadium in Cheras tonight.
The visitors scored first through a penalty by team captain Ahmad Khuzaimi Piee in the 16th minute only to allow KL City to claw their way back in the 25th minute when Victor Ruiz Abril quickly pounced on a loose ball off his penalty shot blocked by goalkeeper Muhammad Azri Abdul Ghani.
KL City then went ahead in the 39th minute when Nicolao Manuel Dumitru Cardoso tucked in a cross by teammate Victor Ruiz Abril and continued to hold the lead for the better part of the second half.
A collision between KL City team captain Giancarlo Gallifuoco and Joseph Esso in the 80th minute led to a red card for KL City assistant head coach Prijaca Edin by the assistant referee while the referee was conducting a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review.
The review led to a penalty awarded to Negeri Sembilan FC, which was successfully converted by Aday Ali Abdulraheem Kharroub in the 81st minute to tie the match at 2-2.
Tensions were still high and KL City head coach Vidakovic Savic Risto ended up with a red card as well in the 83rd minute for issuing orders from the sidelines, but the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
