PH convention set to chart coalition direction ahead of polls

Pakatan Harapan’s 2026 convention will outline coalition strategy and election preparations, says Fahmi Fadzil.

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2026 Pakatan Harapan (PH) Convention on Sunday is expected to serve as an important platform in charting the coalition’s direction, including preparations for the possibility of state elections in Johor and Melaka this year.

PH communications director Datuk Fahmi Fadzil described the convention, the coalition’s first in four years, as the “first beating of the war drums”, with PH chairman and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim set to deliver the keynote address.

“The highlight will be the address by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Through his message, we will gain a clearer picture of PH’s direction amid speculation over possible state elections in Johor, Melaka and beyond.

“Certainly, the address by the Pakatan Harapan leadership will set the tone and direction on many matters that will subsequently be translated into action by the coalition’s election machinery at both the state and national levels,” he told reporters after the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) Excellence Awards and Lembah Pantai Teachers’ Day Celebration 2026 here today.

The convention, scheduled to take place at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre in Johor Bahru, is expected to gather more than 3,000 delegates from across the country representing PKR, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) and DAP.

Fahmi, who is also PKR information chief, said Anwar, who is also Prime Minister, is expected to highlight the achievements of the PH leadership and Cabinet in addressing long-standing issues faced by the people throughout his administration.

He said the Prime Minister had yet to signal that the 16th General Election (GE16) would be called in the near future, as the government remained focused on resolving issues affecting the people.

Fahmi, who is also Communications Minister, said the main priority of the PH leadership, particularly Cabinet members, during the first two to three years of the MADANI Government administration had been to ensure that the agenda for change and reform was implemented effectively.

He said among the major initiatives requiring careful attention was the implementation of subsidy rationalisation measures involving RON95 petrol and diesel.

Besides speeches by top leaders, the one-day convention will also feature forums and podcasts involving the Women and Youth wings in the morning, followed by sessions with leaders of PH component parties in the afternoon.
