Helium gas cylinder blast in Sungai Petani kills one, injures three

A helium gas cylinder explosion at an expo site in Sungai Petani kills one and leaves three others injured, including a teenager.

SUNGAI PETANI: One person died and three others were injured in an explosion of a helium gas cylinder at an expo site near a supermarket near here today.

Sungai Petani Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) head, Deputy Fire Superintendent II Siti Norafiza Mohd Noh said her department received a call via the NG 999 system at 7.52 last night.

“The explosion is believed to involve a unit of helium gas cylinder used to fill balloons.

“So far, a 42-year-old man has been reported dead while three other victims, including a 15-year-old boy, have been reported injured,” she said in a statement today.

As the operations are still ongoing at the location, the number of injured victims may rise further.
