Veteran Fish frontman Marlin turns to acoustic solo work with a socially conscious track
MALAYSIAN singer-songwriter Marlin Parabakaran has released his latest solo single Blind Eye, an acoustic track centred on war, hunger, injustice and the suffering of civilians caught in global conflicts.
Marlin, best known as the frontman of 1990s Malaysian alternative rock band Fish and former vocalist of Uno, arranged, performed and recorded all the instruments on the track himself. He also produced and edited the accompanying music video, using generative artificial intelligence to create its visual sequences.

The song was written over two years and reflects Marlin’s response to real-world stories of conflict and inequality. Built around acoustic instrumentation and vocals, Blind Eye calls on listeners to confront indifference rather than ignore humanitarian crises.
“This track is a reflection of the world we live in today, and I wanted every element of it to be raw, authentic and under my direct creative direction,” said Marlin.
“Performing all the instruments allowed me to inject my direct emotions into the audio. For the visuals, using AI technology allowed me to bring complex, borderless humanitarian stories to life in a way that traditional independent filming could never have achieved. It’s a call to action for humanity to lead with compassion.”
Marlin’s early career included work as a sound engineer at Datuk M. Nasir’s recording studio. In contrast, his songwriting credits include material for artistes such as Elyana, Amir UK, Shades, Dr Kronik, Joey, Ruhil, Aweera and Ernie Zakri.
As a performer, he fronted Fish, which was signed to Warner Music Malaysia, and later Uno under New Southern Records. Fish was nominated for Best New Group Artist at Anugerah Industri Muzik 1999 while Uno received an Artis Harapan nomination at Anugerah Industri Muzik 2002.
Beyond performance, Marlin has worked as a producer, arranger, recording engineer and mixing engineer for local labels and artists. He was also part of the engineering team on M. Nasir’s Phoenix Bangkit, which was nominated in the Best Engineered Album category at AIM 2002.
Blind Eye is now available on Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Amazon Music and other streaming platforms. The official video is available on YouTube.
