Two siblings feared missing while bathing in Sungai Beril, forcing family to cancel their Aidiladha celebration trip to Kelantan
DUNGUN: Two siblings were feared missing while bathing in Sungai Beril near Taman Beril, Paka near here and their family trip to celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha at their grandmother’s house in Melor, Kota Bharu, Kelantan this year may have to be called off.
The victim’s mother, Siti Nurfitriah Hasan, 35, said she, her husband, Mohd Zul-Zunaidi Mohd Baldin, 40, and their family planned to return to her husband’s hometown tomorrow evening to celebrate Aidiladha.
However, she said, that wish was not fulfilled when her two children, Muhammad Amir Ashraf Mohd Zul-Zunaidi, 15, and Muhammad Aidil Amsyar, 14, were feared missing while bathing in the river at 10.56 am this morning.
“My eldest and second children are so happy and excited when we plan to return home to celebrate Aidiladha in Kelantan tomorrow,” she said when met at the scene of the incident here this evening.
She said that so far, only the body of Muhammad Amir Ashraf was found at the bottom of the river 5.1 metres deep, seven metres from where her son was feared missing at 3.47pm this afternoon.
Meanwhile, she said Muhammad Aidil Amsyar had still not been found and the search and rescue operation continued this afternoon.
She said she did not think the two children had gone to bathe in the river because they had said they wanted to go eat roti canai at a restaurant not far from their house.
She said the river was located about four kilometres from their home in Kampung Kolam here.
“I only found out about the incident that befell my two sons after being informed by a neighbour at around 11am,” she said.
The media today reported that two of her son’s friends, Muhammad Farish Iqbal Cik Mohana Runasdi, 14, and Muhammad Afi Naashif Adli Noone, 15, who had also bathed in the river, were safe.
