Police maintain covert operations against international drug cartels

PDRM conduct ongoing covert operations with international partners to combat drug cartels, keeping most efforts confidential to maintain effectiveness.

TAWAU: The Royal Malaysia Police consistently conducts operations targeting international drug cartels, though most remain undisclosed to the public.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said these operations are kept low-profile to effectively implement crime-prevention strategies.

He revealed that PDRM actively collaborates with foreign agencies like the Australian Federal Police, which consistently provide valuable support for drug prevention operations.

“Our collaboration with friendly services and relevant countries is ongoing,” Mohd Khalid told reporters at a press conference during the 17th Sabah State Election operation.

He attributed numerous successful drug case resolutions across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak to this international cooperation.

Former IGP Tan Sri Razarudin Husain previously stated that covert operations and real-time intelligence sharing have long been pivotal in Malaysia’s fight against drug trafficking.

Razarudin explained that operations against drug cartels are conducted “behind the curtain” to prevent syndicates from changing tactics and complicating detection efforts.
