About 1,000 users in Padawan villages face communication disruptions after a tower fire, with MCMC deploying mitigation measures.
KUCHING: About 1,000 users in several villages in Padawan have experienced communication service disruptions after a commercial communication tower owned by Sacofa Sdn Bhd in Kampung Semaru caught fire on Wednesday.
Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said the affected areas are Kampung Semaru, Kampung Biya Parang, Kampung Sapit, Kampung Kiding, Kampung Pesang and Kampung Subang.
“Users in the affected areas are expected to experience communication service disruptions, including degraded network coverage and intermittent connectivity. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the relevant authorities,” MCMC said in a statement today.
The commission said it has instructed the affected service providers to implement immediate mitigation measures.
“These include optimising existing network coverage in nearby areas and deploying a Portable Base Transceiver Station (PBTS) to ensure continuity of communication services while restoration works on the affected infrastructure are underway,” it said.
During the restoration period, affected users are advised to utilise the facilities at the NADI centres in Kampung Darul Islam Belimbing, Kampung Bengoh and Kampung Braang Bayur to access communication services and digital facilities.
MCMC said it would continue to monitor the situation closely and work with Sacofa Sdn Bhd, service providers and relevant agencies to ensure restoration efforts are carried out smoothly.
