Fire destroys 80% of MCA office in Yong Peng, with no casualties reported and losses yet to be determined

BATU PAHAT: An MCA office in Jalan Nipah, Lorong 3, Yong Peng near here was 80 per cent destroyed in a fire tonight.

In a statement, operation commander Senior Fire Officer II Muhammad Amier Syah Hamzah said the Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call on the incident at 8.28 pm.

He said two Fire Rescue Tenders and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, with a total of 14 personnel from the Yong Peng and Ayer Hitam fire stations, were deployed to the scene.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found a semi-permanent office building engulfed in flames and immediately began firefighting operations,” he said, adding that no casualties were reported and that the operation concluded at 9.56 pm.

Meanwhile, MCA Youth chief Ling Tian Soon said the premises served as a community activity centre, hosting programmes such as dance classes and karaoke at least four times a week.

“I received a call at about 8.30 pm informing me of the fire, which also destroyed a public address (PA) system and newly installed air-conditioning units,” he told Bernama when contacted.

However, he said the cause of the fire and the extent of losses have yet to be determined.
