Search teams locate company Pajero 1.5km from where man was swept away in Sungai Klang, with operation now extended to Selangor areas
KUALA LUMPUR: The company vehicle used by a man missing after being swept away in Sungai Klang was found by search teams this morning.
Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Sazalee Adam said the Mitsubishi Pajero was located at 8.30 am about 1.5 kilometres from the incident site.
“Checks showed the victim was not inside the vehicle,” he told reporters at the scene.
The vehicle has been recovered and returned to its owning company.
The search and rescue operation entered its third day today after pausing at 6.30 pm yesterday.
The missing victim is a 34-year-old man.
Today’s operation involves 21 scuba divers from the Fire and Rescue Department and Marine Police.
Teams are using drones and small boats or kayaks to search along the river.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Operations Assistant Director M. Fatta M. Amin said improved weather conditions aided the search.
Calmer currents and clearer water allowed divers to conduct more thorough examinations.
Teams are deployed along a 20 kilometre stretch of river divided into four zones.
The operation has now been extended into Selangor covering Puchong, Shah Alam and Klang.
The incident occurred around 5.30 pm on Monday when a sudden surge hit the river.
Eleven other victims trapped under a bridge were successfully rescued by fire department personnel. – Bernama
