Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says GLIC investment commitments in Bumiputera businesses have increased to RM2 billion for 2026, up from RM1.3 billion last year.
KUALA LUMPUR: Investment commitments by government-linked investment companies (GLICs) in Bumiputera businesses have been increased to RM2 billion for 2026, compared with RM1.3 billion last year, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
In a post on social media platform X, he said the commitment includes the Bumiputera Relay Initiative (Larian Ganti Bumiputera), which aims to expand access to financing and investment for Bumiputera entrepreneurs at every stage of business growth.
Anwar chaired the Second Meeting of the Bumiputera Economic Council (MEB) for 2026 today.
He said the move continues efforts to strengthen Bumiputera institutions, which began with the consolidation of the government-linked private equity company EKUINAS under the Bumiputera Investment Foundation (Yayasan Pelaburan Bumiputra).
Anwar also said that to strengthen monitoring of Bumiputera development programmes, particularly initiatives under PuTERA35, the Bumiputera Agenda Steering Unit (TERAJU), currently overseen by the Ministry of Economy, will be transferred to the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) as an agency.
“To date, the overall achievement of PuTERA35 has reached 64.6 per cent, with 160 out of 493 planned programmes successfully implemented. This progress reflects the MADANI Government’s continued commitment to ensuring that the Bumiputera development agenda is translated into tangible outcomes that directly benefit the people,” he added.
Anwar said the meeting was also informed that GLICs and government-linked companies (GLCs) spent RM49.2 billion last year, particularly through procurement from Bumiputera vendors and suppliers.
At the same time, he said Khazanah Nasional Bhd will launch the Dana Ciptawan Fund with an allocation of RM200 million to support Bumiputera mid-tier companies, thereby strengthening their capacity to grow, compete and penetrate wider markets.
In addition, the meeting reviewed the resolutions of the 2026 Bumiputera Education Congress, which was held on May 1. Further consideration will be given to several strategic proposals, including the establishment of a National Tahfiz Council, to ensure that efforts to strengthen Bumiputera education and human capital development are implemented in a more comprehensive and effective manner.
