Deputy PM Fadillah Yusof calls for stronger collaboration and AI governance to boost Malaysia’s global industrial standing through SIRIM certifications.
KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between government, industry, academia and innovators to enhance Malaysia’s global industrial credibility.
He stated that such cross-sector partnerships are crucial for ensuring standards, certifications and technological solutions contribute meaningfully to Malaysia’s international standing.
“We remain steadfast in supporting SIRIM as the national certification body and as a leading institution that champions artificial intelligence governance, smart manufacturing and sustainable industrial ecosystems,” Fadillah said in his opening remarks at the Majlis SIRIM Industri 2025.
The event carried the theme “Quality and Sustainability through AI-Driven Innovation” and was held here tonight.
Fadillah added that Malaysia must decisively embrace AI as a catalyst for smarter factories, greener operations, safer products and world-class competitiveness.
He highlighted SIRIM’s evolution beyond merely setting standards to shaping industrial possibilities and strengthening Malaysia’s stature as a trusted global partner.
“For 50 years, SIRIM has not merely set standards; it has shaped possibilities,” he noted.
The deputy prime minister emphasised that economic strength must be inclusive, sustainable and value-anchored as guided by the MADANI Economy Framework and the 13th Malaysia Plan.
During the event, SIRIM Berhad introduced two new certifications: the AI Management System Certification and the Innovation Management System Certification.
ISO/IEC 42001 represents the world’s first international standard for responsible and transparent AI governance, providing organisations with a structured framework to manage AI ethically.
MS ISO 56001 offers a systematic approach for organisations to manage innovation effectively while strengthening internal processes and fostering structured creativity.
SIRIM Berhad also received recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records for employing 396 auditors, the highest number within a single organisation in the country.
This achievement underscores SIRIM’s strong technical capacity and longstanding commitment to national quality assurance.
Present at the event were Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry deputy secretary-general Datuk Bahria Mohd Tamil and SIRIM chairman Datuk Dr Khairol Anuar Mohamad Tawi.
Also in attendance were SIRIM acting president and group CEO Nik Sazali Nik Hussin and SIRIM Board members. – Bernama
