Sarawak Premier Abang Johari emphasises lean, digital, and innovative civil service for greater public impact, with 59% of services now online.
KUCHING: A strong civil service is measured by its public impact rather than its size, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg declared today.
He advocated building a lean, agile, and results-driven service by simplifying processes and prioritising initiatives that make a real difference.
“Lean management, digitalisation and innovation are interconnected,” he said at the Sarawak Public Service Day Celebration 2025.
Abang Johari explained that lean practices enhance efficiency while digitalisation enables faster, evidence-based decisions.
He noted that innovation thrives in such environments, empowering officers to improve services and deliver greater public impact.
The premier highlighted the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030 as the state’s framework for modernising governance.
This involves integrating systems, strengthening data utilisation, and automating government processes.
He reported that 59% of state government services are now available online, showing steady progress toward a fully digital public sector.
“By 2030, I foresee that every sector of Sarawak’s economy, from agriculture and industry to services and governance, will be digital,” Abang Johari stated.
He emphasised that innovation and technology will become integral to how the government serves its people.
Capacity building remains a cornerstone for strengthening the Sarawak civil service, according to the premier.
As the state approaches 2026, the government will reinforce core governance competencies while nurturing emerging capabilities.
These include digital transformation, data-driven policymaking, climate resilience, and citizen-centric innovation.
To achieve this vision, the Sarawak Government has formed strategic partnerships with global institutions.
These include Henley, Cambridge, Oxford, and the London School of Economics.
These collaborations provide officers with exposure to best practices in leadership, governance, and public policy. – Bernama
