MADANI govt boosts affordable housing with RMR programme

50 recipients in Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus benefit from completed homes and new house offer letters under the RMR scheme.

KUALA NERUS: Fifty recipients in the Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus parliamentary constituencies received assistance under the Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) programme today, comprising 30 completed homes and 20 offer letters for the construction of new houses.

The presentation was held in conjunction with Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) secretary-general Datuk Dr M. Noor Azman Taib’s working visit to Dewan Ehsan, Felda Wilayah Timur, here.

M. Noor Azman said the RMR programme, implemented by Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) under KPKT, reflects the MADANI Government’s continued commitment to helping lower-income groups who own land but lack proper housing to own safe, comfortable and quality homes.

“The RMR programme is not merely about providing a house, but also serves as a catalyst for improving the quality of life through home ownership that is safe, comfortable and affordable.

“The MADANI Government will continue strengthening the implementation of the RMR programme so that more people can own homes. This initiative not only fulfils a basic housing need, but is also a long-term investment in building family well-being, strengthening communities and improving people’s quality of life,” he said in a statement today.

He said under Budget 2026, the government aims to build 6,545 RMR units nationwide,

To date, 3,900 units have been implemented, comprising 2,478 completed and handed over to recipients, while another 1,422 units are under construction.

In Terengganu, 680 RMR units are being implemented with a total allocation of RM46.67 million. As of last May, 246 units had been completed and handed over to eligible recipients, while another 154 units are under construction.

He said said 34 RMR units have been implemented in the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary constituency, with 18 completed and 16 under construction.

In Kuala Nerus, 32 units have been implemented, comprising 25 completed units and seven under construction.

Since its introduction in 2002, the RMR programme has benefited more than 80,000 families nationwide by providing safe, comfortable and quality homes, he added.
