MITRA grant draws 1,340 applications in five days

MITRA’s Uyarvu MADANI Grant receives 1,340 applications within five days of launch, with RM50,000 grants for eligible Indian entrepreneurs.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Uyarvu MADANI Grant organised by the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA) has received 1,340 applications as of noon today, just five days after its launch.

MITRA director-general N. Raveendran Nair said the programme could be closed earlier if its target of 1,500 applications is reached ahead of schedule.

He said 700 entrepreneurs who meet the eligibility requirements and selection criteria would be selected to receive assistance under the programme.

“The encouraging response reflects the strong demand among micro and small entrepreneurs for financial assistance to expand and strengthen their businesses,” he said in a statement today.

The programme, launched on June 29 by Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, offers grants of up to RM50,000 to eligible Indian entrepreneurs under MITRA’s purview.

It is one of MITRA’s key initiatives to help Indian entrepreneurs strengthen their businesses and improve competitiveness.

Ramanan said the initiative is designed to support Indian entrepreneurs, especially micro-business owners who often struggle to access financing.

He stressed that the assistance must be channelled transparently and directly to those who are eligible.

In a related development, the MADANI Government, under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership, has approved an additional RM50 million allocation for MITRA, bringing the agency’s total annual budget to RM150 million.

To qualify for the Uyarvu MADANI Grant, applicants must be Malaysian citizens aged between 21 and 55, with a valid business registration from the Companies Commission of Malaysia.

MITRA has urged eligible entrepreneurs to submit their applications without delay, as the deadline is set for July 13.
