JDT’s 7-1 win provides perfect boost ahead of Melbourne City clash

JDT coach Xisco Munoz says the 7-1 victory over Melaka FC is ideal preparation for their upcoming AFC Champions League match against Melbourne City.

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) head coach Xisco Munoz described his team’s 7-1 win over Melaka FC as the perfect preparation for their AFC Champions League clash against Melbourne City.

Munoz said the team returned from a two-week break with renewed energy and character ahead of the continental match in four days.

He told reporters the team showed strong physicality and mentality despite the layoff.

The performance was ideal for their ACL preparations according to the coach.

Munoz acknowledged breaking down the opponents’ low defensive block was difficult.

He praised his players for maintaining creativity and combining well through wide areas and central channels.

Looking ahead to the ACL tie, Munoz reminded his players to stay alert against Melbourne City.

He described the Australian side as stronger and more complete than last season.

Munoz said JDT must remain ambitious and stay true to their playing identity.

He emphasized the need to be prepared for Melbourne’s intensity and physical duels.

Meanwhile, Melaka FC head coach K. Devan admitted defensive mistakes caused their heavy defeat.

He said despite conceding two early goals, Melaka defended well in the first half.

Their failure to read JDT’s one-touch movements after the break led to three quick goals.

Devan added that Melaka’s priority this season is to remain in the Super League.

The team is bringing in new foreign players to strengthen the squad.

New signings will include players from Africa, Colombia, Japan and Korea.

These additions will come during the second transfer window. – Bernama
