Voting ends at 6 pm across 1,076 polling centres for the 16th Johor state election, with results expected by 10 pm.
JOHOR BAHRU: Polling for the 16th Johor state election officially ended at 6 pm today after all 1,076 polling centres across the state closed.
The polling process began at 8 am, with voting stations closing in stages throughout the day. The earliest polling centre to close was the Balai Raya Pulau Besar in the Tenggaroh state constituency at 11 am.
As of 5 pm, 67.44 per cent, or over 1.8 million of the state’s 2.6 million ordinary voters, had cast their ballots.
The Election Commission (EC) had earlier set a voter turnout target of 70 per cent for this election, with full results expected as early as 10 pm tonight.
All ballot boxes from the state’s 4,889 voting streams are now being transported to vote tallying centres before the official results are announced.
At the same time, the opening of postal ballot envelopes has begun and is being livestreamed on the EC’s official Facebook page to ensure transparency.
A total of 172 candidates are contesting 56 seats in the state election.
