A student’s unanswered plea for university help exposes the painful reality of parental neglect and sparks a wave of shared family trauma online.

“I SUPPOSE this is what a broken family truly looks like”

That was the heartbreaking conclusion reached by a Threads user after watching their younger sibling wait for weeks for a reply that never came.

As university enrolment drew closer, two simple messages asking for help were met only with silence.

The post struck a chord with many users, who viewed the unanswered messages as more than just missed texts, but as a reflection of a strained parent-child relationship during a critical stage of the sibling’s education.

The Threads user did not describe the situation as an isolated incident. Instead, they pointed to what they said was a pattern of disappointment, writing: “I feel so sorry for my younger sibling, who has been hoping to hear from our father since last month.”

The post was accompanied by a screenshot of two unanswered WhatsApp messages that the younger sibling had sent to their father.

In the first message, the sibling asked whether they could visit two banks together to settle matters related to university enrolment.

Days later, a second, shorter message simply asked whether they could go to the bank the following day. Neither message received a reply.

By sharing the screenshot, the user drew attention to the emotional impact of being ignored at a time when practical support was needed to prepare for higher education.

The post quickly attracted responses from other users, many of whom related to the situation by sharing their own experiences.

One user wrote: “Whatever challenges you face within your family, do not stop studying,” before encouraging the sibling to remain focused on completing their degree despite financial difficulties.

Another netizen commented: “Remember this well. When you become successful one day, your father and stepmother will suddenly appear with sweet faces.”

Others urged the family to focus on immediate solutions, with one user asking whether the sibling had managed to settle the banking matters and suggesting they seek assistance directly from bank staff if necessary.

Several commenters also shared similar personal experiences rather than passing judgement.

One user recalled being refused financial support by their own father despite watching him provide for another household, while another described attending their university graduation alone after receiving little family support throughout their studies.
