Police confirm a 19-year-old Malaysian from Sarawak was arrested in Hong Kong with 3kg of cannabis buds, likely recruited as a drug mule.
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have confirmed that a Malaysian teenage boy arrested in Hong Kong with three kilogrammes of cannabis buds was likely recruited by a syndicate as a drug mule.
The 19-year-old, originally from Sarawak, was detained upon arrival at Hong Kong International Airport on July 9.
Authorities there have since notified Malaysia’s narcotics police, Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department Director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said when contacted today.
He added that initial checks show the young man has no prior criminal record in Malaysia.
The teenager, who flew in from Kuala Lumpur via Singapore, was caught during a routine customs check, with approximately three kilogrammes of cannabis buds, valued at HKD500,000, or roughly RM260,000, hidden inside his luggage.
