MANY Malaysians know the one piece of advise when dining at nasi kandar eateries—it is generally not advisable to take seafood dishes, as they can be quite pricey. One customer found himself taken aback after allegedly being charged a hefty sum for a single prawn at a nasi kandar chain restaurant in KL.
According to the Threads post, the total bill came up to RM83.20, with the one piece of ‘Udang Goreng Tiger XL’ amounting to a rather hefty RM50.

The rest of the meal included nasi briyani kosong (RM9), ayam bawang (RM14), telur masin (RM2) and kobis (RM3.50), bringing the subtotal to RM78.50 before SST.
The post quickly attracted attention, with many Malaysians saying the price came as a shock, while others pointed out that seafood has always been one of the costliest options at nasi kandar eateries.
One user joked: “Maybe they saw your wallet full of RM50 notes (just kidding). But RM50 for one prawn is too much. Feels like something worth lodging a complaint over.”
Another commented: “That’s insanely expensive! I usually buy a whole kilogram of prawns for around RM50. This is just one piece.”
A third user reminded diners of an unwritten nasi kandar rule: “Never take squid or prawns unless you’re ready to pay. But judging from that wallet, maybe it’s okay!”
