HAT YAI: Ten Malaysian tourists from Cuti Cuti Langkawi Sdn Bhd are stranded in their hotel following severe flooding in southern Thailand.
The group entered Thailand via the Padang Besar border checkpoint yesterday for a tourism networking visit.
Floodwaters began rising in Hat Yai later in the afternoon, trapping the tourists at their accommodation.
Company general manager Dr Baharin Baharom, who is leading the delegation, said they have remained at the hotel since yesterday evening.
“At about 10 am today, the electricity supply to the hotel was cut off, and the management informed us that a generator would be used in case of emergency,” he told Bernama.
The hotel, with assistance from local Thai travel agents, provided free halal meals for lunch and dinner to all stranded tourists.
“For now, we are waiting for further updates from the Thai authorities,” Baharin added.
A text messaging system is being used to send the latest information directly to their mobile phones.
The Malaysian Consulate in Songkhla has advised Malaysians to postpone travel to southern Thailand due to the flooding.
Malaysians in the region are urged to stay alert to weather developments and follow instructions from local authorities.
They should also ensure their personal safety during the ongoing situation.
