A labourer was fined RM3,000 and ordered to undergo 36 hours of community service for exposing his toddler daughter to drugs.
PASIR MAS: A labourer was fined RM3,000 and ordered to undergo 36 hours of community service by the Sessions Court here today for exposing his one-year eight-months old daughter to two types of drugs.
Judge Zulkpli Abdullah prounounced the sentence on Muhammad Shahrul Hisham Lailatulazhma, 27, after he pleaded guilty to the charges of exposing his daughter to drugs till she had traces of benzodiazepines and methamphetamine in her body.
He was charged with committing the offence at a house in Taman Rantau Mas, Rantau Panjang near here at 10.30 pm, April 5 under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, punishable under Section 31(1) of the same Act.
Deputy public prosecutor Siti Aisyha Nai’lah Harizan sought a sentence commensurate with the crime as the accused had failed to protect the victim and instead exposed her to drugs, while Muhammad Shahrul, who was unrepresented, asked for a minimum fine as he was supporting his unemployed wife and daughter.
The judge also imposed a RM2,000 good behaviour bond with one surety for a year.
