The AGC orders an inquest into the deaths of three men in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, to determine the cause and circumstances of the shooting.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has decided that an inquest will be held to investigate the deaths of three individuals in a shooting incident in Durian Tunggal, Melaka on Nov 24 last year.
The AGC said the inquest is intended to determine the cause and circumstances of the deaths, as well as to examine the facts and events that led to them, including whether any criminal elements were involved in the deaths of the three individuals.
“The department has received and reviewed the investigation papers submitted by the Royal Malaysia Police.
“After considering all the evidence and findings of the investigation, the AGC has decided that an inquest should be conducted under Section 339(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code,” it said in a the statement today.
The AGC stated that it takes every incident involving loss of life seriously, and that the decision to hold an inquest reflects its commitment to ensuring that all facts and circumstances are examined thoroughly, transparently, and independently.
The AGC also reiterated its commitment to ensure that all legal actions and processes are carried out fairly, professionally, and in accordance with the rule of law.
On Nov 24 last year, three men, 24 to 29, were shot dead after one of them allegedly swung a machete at a police corporal and injuring his left arm at an oil palm plantation in Durian Tunggal at about 4 am.
On May 26 this year, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director Datuk M Kumar said the investigation papers on the shooting case had been referred back to the AGC after the police completed several additional instructions requested by the prosecution.
