‘Honestly, I feel saddened and disturbed that personal privacy can be compromised so easily,” said Khairul Aming.
PETALING JAYA: Content creator and entrepreneur Khairul Aming has announced that he is taking legal action following an alleged leak of his personal data, saying the incident has left him feeling both saddened and disturbed.
In a post shared on social media, Khairul said his legal team has issued a Letter of Demand to the telecommunications company over the matter.
He also revealed that several official reports have been lodged with the relevant authorities.
“My lawyers have issued a Letter of Demand (LOD) to Maxis. An official report has been lodged with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
“A police report has been filed at Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters (IPD Dang Wangi) to initiate an investigation into the perpetrator. A data breach report has also been submitted to the Personal Data Protection Commissioner (SPDP).”
Khairul said the incident had highlighted how easily an individual’s privacy could be compromised.
“Honestly, I feel saddened and disturbed that personal privacy can be compromised so easily.
“My phone details, payment history, subscription information, and even my identity card number, which could be used to access MySara, were all exposed,” he said.
Initally, Khairul questioned on Threads how another user had allegedly exposed details of his phone bill. In his post, he sought an explanation from Maxis over how his personal information was leaked.
Maxis reportedly said its investigation found the incident to be an isolated case involving unauthorised access to one customer’s account details, and that all access to customer accounts is recorded and monitored.
“Based on our findings, this is an isolated incident involving an unauthorised action. There is no indication of any broader incident involving other customers,” it said.
