Making Tabung Haji RCI report public will reveal the truth – Mujahid

‘For me, the time has come for the RCI report to be made public. We want to know who was truly responsible for undermining TH and who saved the institution.’

SEREMBAN: Making public the final report of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) will allow the public to know the truth about the institution’s management and put to rest years of controversy and allegations, Amanah vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa said.

He said the public had the right to judge for themselves TH’s management during the period covered by the inquiry, from 2014 to 2020.

The former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) said he was among those who had testified before the RCI panel and was prepared to be judged based on the findings of the report, including if any shortcomings were found during his tenure.

“For me, the time has come for the RCI report to be made public. We want to know who was truly responsible for undermining TH and who saved the institution,” he told a press conference here today.

Mujahid said making the report public was also important to restore public confidence in the institution, which now has about 9.2 million depositors, and to ensure any assessment was based on the findings of an independent and professional commission rather than allegations or political polemics.

However, he said he did not want to draw any conclusions before the report was made public, expressing hope that the findings would provide a comprehensive account of TH’s management throughout the period under review.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed confidence that the Cabinet would agree to make the RCI report on TH public after the proposal is tabled for the Cabinet’s consideration on Wednesday.
