KUANTAN: Police have identified the six men who were killed in a crash involving a car and a one-tonne lorry at KM86 of Jalan Kuala Lumpur-Kuantan, Karak, at about 4 am today.

Acting Pahang police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said the victims were identified as car driver V. Mugilan, 25, K. Dineshvaran, 22, K. Alaganathan, 21, A. Kanabati Raja, 19, S. Kiisven, 17, and M. Paranthaman, 16.

He said the 31-year-old lorry driver sustained serious injuries to his legs and body.

“Investigations found that the Toyota Camry, driven by the 25-year-old man, was travelling from Kuantan towards Kuala Lumpur.

“Upon reaching the scene, which is a downhill stretch with a bend, the vehicle is believed to have lost control before veering into the opposite lane and colliding head-on with the lorry,” he said in a statement today.

Azry Akmar said all the victims, who were friends, died at the scene and their bodies were taken to Temerloh Hospital for post-mortem examinations. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He also advised all road users to always obey traffic regulations, drive prudently, and avoid endangering themselves or other road users.

Earlier, the media reported that six men were killed after the car they were travelling in collided with a one-tonne lorry on Jalan Karak Lama heading towards Temerloh, near Klinik Desa Jambu Rias in Bentong, early this morning.
