Minister Hannah Yeoh says about 3,000 applicants remain on the waiting list for DBKL-managed PPR units in Kuala Lumpur.
KUALA LUMPUR: About 3,000 applicants are still on the waiting list for units under the People’s Housing Programme (PPR) managed by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), says Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh.
She said the PPR waiting list in the capital remained lengthy, with priority given based on the order of applications to B40 applicants who met the criteria set by DBKL.
“Current PPR allocations also involve police and fire department personnel as we want enforcement authorities to be present within the community to provide assistance, while several units have also been reserved for fire victims or families facing the loss of a family member,” she told reporters after a working visit to PPR Seri Pantai in Pantai Dalam here today.
Also present was Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud.
At the event, Hannah handed over PPR offer letters to 29 recipients to fill available vacant units, as well as offer letters for the occupation of hawker centre premises to 40 local traders involving eight parliamentary constituencies in Kuala Lumpur.
She also announced that maintenance and upgrading works at PPR Seri Pantai, costing RM2,587,100, had been completed as part of the RM300 million package to upgrade all Public Housing (PA) and PPR units in Kuala Lumpur.
Hannah said the amount covered upgrades to lift facilities, road resurfacing, lighting systems, water pump systems, children’s playgrounds and fire prevention systems.
“Now that the upgrading works have been completed, we hope all residents will take good care of these facilities because the money used belongs to the people,” she said.
PPR Seri Pantai, which opened in 1998 and has 936 residential units, is among 25 of 64 PA and PPR projects that have been upgraded, while the remaining projects are targeted for completion by the end of this year.
