Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirms all security branches are activated to manage worsening floods across multiple states, with nearly 14,000 victims recorded.
PUTRAJAYA: The government has mobilised all branches of security agencies through the Central Disaster Management Committee and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) to tackle flooding in several states.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said 63 temporary relief centres have been activated in affected areas.
The latest NADMA report recorded 13,915 individuals from 4,844 families affected by flooding due to continuous downpours.
Kelantan is the most affected state with 9,503 victims from 3,487 families, followed by Perak with 1,538 victims from 485 families.
Perlis recorded 1,426 victims from 426 families, while Kedah has 542 victims from 168 families.
Penang has 414 victims from 106 families, Selangor 283 victims from 94 families, and Terengganu 209 victims from 78 families.
The Civil Defence Force readiness is at optimum level, especially in Kelantan, with over 1,205 personnel activated.
Additional teams from nearby states are ready to be mobilised at any time to face possible rising water levels.
Ahmad Zahid said the CDF is prepared with 91 land and water assets including boats, ambulances, lorries and drones.
Disaster Operations Control Centres are working round the clock to monitor weather conditions and river water levels.
The CDF has conducted proactive measures including early activation of control centres in all Kelantan districts.
They are conducting periodic controls in flood-prone areas and disseminating information via social media platforms.
The government has ensured all victims evacuated to relief centres receive adequate necessities including food, camps and medicines.
Ahmad Zahid urged flood victims and residents in at-risk areas to comply with authorities’ instructions to reduce disaster impact.
The public can obtain flood warnings via publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my or its social media accounts @JPSInfoBanjir.
He also recommended downloading the myCuaca app for weather updates from the Malaysian Meteorological Department.
“I pray and hope that this incident will not cause major damage and that everyone remains calm and strong through this troubled time,” he added.
