Security personnel begin early voting in Sabah state election

24,426 military and police personnel and spouses cast early votes across 58 centres in Sabah for the 17th state election.

KOTA KINABALU: A total of 58 early voting centres opened simultaneously at 8 am today for the 17th Sabah state election (PRN17), enabling 24,426 military and police personnel, together with their spouses, to cast their ballots.

Of the total, 11,697 are military personnel and their spouses, while 12,729 comprise police personnel and their spouses.

Early voting centres for military voters include Kem Sri Kudat, Kem Paradise Kota Belud, Sekolah Kebangsaan Pangkalan TLDM Kota Kinabalu, Markas Rejimen 507 Askar Wataniah Kota Kinabalu, Sekolah Agama Rakyat Kem Lok Kawi, Kem Cenderawasih Lahad Datu and Kem Kubota in Sebatik.

For police personnel and their spouses, voting is being held at the Sabah contingent police headquarters here, district police headquarters and several General Operations Force (PGA) battalion headquarters statewide.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has forecast rain and thunderstorms in several districts throughout the day.

This state election sees 596 candidates contesting 73 seats, including 74 independents, with the campaign period ending at 11.59 pm on Nov 28.
