Shamsul Iskandar steps down as PM’s senior political secretary, citing attempts to damage government image and defending himself from attacks.
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin has announced his resignation as the Prime Minister’s senior political secretary.
He confirmed submitting his resignation letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim this morning.
“I understand that there is an attempt to attack me with things that can damage the image of the MADANI government, hence I have decided to defend myself from this attack,” Shamsul stated in a Facebook post.
He also expressed gratitude to the prime minister for the trust placed in him during his tenure.
The announcement follows former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli’s earlier call for action regarding a letter of support issued by one of the prime minister’s political secretaries.
Rafizi had urged investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission into the matter.
Prime Minister Anwar clarified that the letter was “vague” and did not constitute an instruction.
He emphasised that project approval processes remained unaffected as authorities understood standard procedures.
