NGOs urged to source flood relief goods from wholesalers

NGOs providing flood relief are urged to buy directly from wholesalers to prevent supermarket shortages and ensure public supply stability during monsoon season.

MARANG: Non-governmental organisations providing flood relief have been advised to purchase goods directly from wholesalers rather than supermarkets.

Terengganu Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry deputy director Mohd Sakhri Mohd Salleh said this approach prevents supply disruptions in retail outlets that could inconvenience the public.

“During the flood season, many NGOs purchase goods to donate to flood victims,” he said after launching the first Pasar PATUH in Terengganu at Bukit Payong Market.

“So we encourage them to buy directly from wholesalers. If they purchase from supermarkets, it may cause supply disruptions to the public due to bulk purchases.”

The ministry has notified supermarkets and will conduct monitoring to ensure no shortages occur that could cause public panic.

KPDN has approved an additional 30% of scheduled controlled goods to prevent supply disruption during the Northeast Monsoon season.

This involves 153 selected district retailers and 77 selected district wholesalers appointed across the state.

Mohd Sakhri also announced the activation of an Operations Room that will operate until 10 pm to monitor and manage supply issues throughout the monsoon.

“Field monitoring will continue throughout the monsoon season,” he said.

“Immediate action will be taken on any complaints regarding supply issues to ensure market stability and protect consumer rights.”
