Sabah key pillar of Malaysia’s economic strength

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says Sabah requires integrated approach to resolve infrastructure issues to boost investment and job creation.

BEAUFORT: Sabah serves as a pillar of Malaysia’s economic strength and stability, particularly in advancing rural development, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

The Rural and Regional Development Minister described Sabah as possessing immense economic potential that requires a more integrated approach to address fundamental infrastructure issues involving roads, water and electricity.

He acknowledged the state government’s efforts in tackling these challenges but stressed that further improvements to basic amenities are essential for public well-being and inclusive development.

“These infrastructure issues must be resolved to attract more investors to Sabah,” he said when officiating the Felcra MADANI Santuni Rakyat @ Lumadan Programme.

“With that, more job opportunities can be created for the people of Sabah, thus helping to reduce unemployment.”

This approach would enable Sabah’s youth to work in their home state without seeking employment in Johor, Penang or the Klang Valley.

They could then support their families while contributing to the state’s economy.

Ahmad Zahid, who chairs the National Disaster Committee, said the government agreed to consider prioritising construction of a Flood Mitigation Plan in the Beaufort area.

He said the initiative is crucial for effective and comprehensive solutions to recurring flood disasters that frequently affect the district.

Felcra Berhad chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub was also present at the event.
