Over 8,000 police mobilised for Sabah state election security

Sabah police deploy 8,000 personnel for state election security, with 110 reports received during campaign period and 1.76 million voters eligible.

KOTA KINABALU: More than 8,000 police personnel have been mobilised across Sabah to ensure a smooth voting process in Saturday’s state election.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said the additional personnel would support district teams in maintaining order at polling centres.

He reminded all officers to maintain discipline and uphold the highest level of professionalism throughout their duties.

“I urge them to take care of their health and refrain from any form of misconduct before, during or after duty,” he told reporters after a send-off ceremony at the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters.

Jauteh also advised voters travelling home to cast their ballots to drive carefully and obey traffic rules.

He said traffic is expected to increase from tomorrow afternoon and reminded vehicle owners to ensure their cars are in good condition.

On the campaign period, Jauteh said activities have been generally smooth despite police receiving 110 reports, mostly involving minor offences.

A total of 1.76 million voters are eligible to vote in the Sabah election, which sees 73 state seats being contested.
