PM Anwar meets Tuaran traders, hears community concerns

PM Anwar Ibrahim visited Tuaran traders, met villager who rented car to thank him, and reaffirmed commitment to equitable national progress.

KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim visited the popular Lokan and Kelapa Bakar stall in Kampung Salut, Tuaran today.

He met traders and interacted with the local community after an earlier engagement with community leaders and entrepreneurs.

Anwar said he stopped by the stall with Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor to hear firsthand about people’s daily lives and challenges.

“In the midst of today’s packed schedule, I also had the chance to meet Aminah Sulaiman, who went so far as to rent a car just to convey her appreciation for the MADANI Government’s efforts in looking after the people’s welfare and well-being,” he said in a Facebook post.

The Prime Minister said various aid initiatives under the MADANI Government have eased burdens for villagers like Aminah.

“Prayers and hopes from people like Aminah strengthen my resolve, and that of the entire team, to continue working, refining our policies and ensuring that every household shares in the nation’s progress in a fair and equitable manner,” he said.

Earlier, a viral video showed Aminah renting a car for RM200 to travel to Sulaman and fulfil her dream of meeting the Prime Minister since 1984.

“I am truly grateful. I performed sujud syukur (prostration of gratitude). I cried. I want him to remain as Prime Minister for the rest of his life. There has been no other Prime Minister who declines a salary – only him,” she said.

The Prime Minister has previously reiterated he will continue forgoing his salary as long as the country’s economy hasn’t fully recovered.
