Corporate reporting should be strategic tool, not compliance burden

Finance Minister urges companies to use corporate reporting as strategic communication tool for transparency and trust amid green and digital transitions.

KUALA LUMPUR: Companies should treat corporate reporting as a strategic communication tool rather than a compliance obligation during the global shift toward green and digital economies.

Finance Minister II and acting Economy Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan emphasised that reporting should clearly convey purpose, progress, and performance with integrity.

“I wish to take this opportunity to commend Bursa Malaysia Bhd, the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, and the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants for their collaboration in driving continuous improvement in corporate reporting standards,” he said.

He praised the three organisations for upholding professional standards and fostering ethical corporate cultures that position Malaysia as a trusted investment destination.

Amir Hamzah acknowledged significant challenges facing corporations from digital disruption, sustainability demands, and evolving investor expectations.

He noted these challenges present opportunities to innovate, build trust, and promote openness and accountability.

“Let us harness technology not only to enhance efficiency but also to improve transparency and public trust,” he added.

The minister urged collective efforts toward a corporate Malaysia that is innovative, responsible, and transparent.

NACRA has represented excellence in corporate reporting for over 35 years, setting benchmarks for transparency and governance.

This year’s awards attracted 60 participating organisations, reflecting growing corporate recognition of clear and comprehensive reporting importance.
