Road to Puncak Arabella Apartments reopened after landslide cleared

Access to Puncak Arabella Apartments in Cameron Highlands restored after landslide, with 53 residents affected and relief efforts completed.

CAMERON HIGHLANDS: The road to Puncak Arabella Apartments in Tanah Rata has been reopened following a landslide that cut off access yesterday.

District police chief Supt Azri Ramli confirmed that clearing work was completed this morning, allowing stranded residents to return home safely.

The landslide occurred on a slope near Block C of the residential building due to continuous heavy rainfall.

It disrupted access to 346 homes and placed 28 units in the block at risk.

Azri said 53 residents from 13 families were affected by the incident.

Most took shelter at relatives’ homes while 17 individuals were placed at the relief centre at Dewan Puncak Arabella.

He credited the swift response of various agencies for bringing the situation under control.

“The swift response of various agencies, including the Royal Malaysia Police, the Fire and Rescue Department, and the Civil Defence Force, had successfully brought the situation under control,” he said in a statement.

The Public Works Department, Cameron Highlands District Council, and SMR Selenggara carried out the clearing work.

The Fire and Rescue Department deployed a Fire Rescue Tender engine to remove debris from the affected road.

The Civil Defence Force conducted evacuation operations and set up cubicle tents at the relief centre.

The Social Welfare Department distributed refreshment kits, bedding, and blankets to the victims. – Bernama
