PKR accepts Sabah election results, vows to learn from defeat

PKR accepts Sabah state election outcome, acknowledging it as a signal for improvement in governance and leadership at local level

KOTA KINABALU: PKR has accepted the people’s decision in the 17th Sabah state election with an open heart.

The party described the outcome as an important signal and reminder for continuing its political struggle.

In a joint statement, PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar and Pakatan Harapan secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the result reflected public sentiment on governance, transparency and local leadership.

They stated the election delivered a clear message that disagreement weakens political strength and erodes public confidence.

“I, as deputy president, take full responsibility collectively as a team for this decision,” the statement read.

“Together with Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution as the joint election director, we are aware that the long journey of a struggle does not lie in victory alone.”

The statement emphasized the importance of acknowledging weaknesses and making improvements.

Regarding PKR contesting 12 seats, they described this as an improvement showing growing confidence in Sabah.

“The support of the machinery and members is also getting stronger; it may not be a victory in numbers, but it is a victory in determination,” they said.

PKR expressed appreciation to party machinery and grassroots for their sacrifices during the campaign.

The party congratulated all successful candidates including its single seat winner.

“Carry this trust with determination, serve with honestly because every action you take will determine the future of the people who voted,” the statement concluded.

Gabungan Rakyat Sabah secured 29 seats in the 73-seat assembly, followed by Parti Warisan with 25 seats.

Barisan Nasional won 6 seats, Independents secured 5, while UPKO, STAR, PN, KDM and PH each won between one and three seats. – Bernama
