A 25-year-old woman lost while hiking at Bukit Mertajam Forest Park was rescued after sharing her location via WhatsApp with fire department personnel
BUKIT MERTAJAM: Fire and rescue personnel successfully located a missing hiker who became lost in the Bukit Mertajam Forest Park this morning.
The 25-year-old woman shared her location via WhatsApp after losing her way during her hike.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations John Sagun Francis confirmed the victim was found safe and unharmed.
The department received an emergency call at 11.20 am reporting the missing hiker.
Six personnel from the Bukit Mertajam Fire and Rescue Station participated in the search operation.
Police officers and members of the public also assisted in locating the hiker.
The victim was safely brought to the foothill and reunited with her waiting family.
In a separate incident at Krystal Heights, Taman Island Glades, a man suffered neck and leg injuries after falling into a deep drain.
Firefighters received the emergency call at 1.23 pm and dispatched eight personnel with two vehicles.
The victim had reportedly slipped while attempting to open his car boot parked near the drain.
Rescuers successfully lifted the man from the more than two-metre deep drain.
Emergency Medical Response Services personnel provided initial treatment at the scene.
Ministry of Health officers also assisted before the victim was transported to hospital for further care. – Bernama
