Flood situation improves as evacuee numbers decline in eight states

Floods fully receded in Melaka while evacuee numbers drop significantly across eight states including Perak, Terengganu and Selangor

KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Melaka has been fully resolved while evacuation numbers continued to decline across eight states as of Friday afternoon.

Melaka’s State Disaster Management Committee confirmed all three temporary relief centres housing 62 victims from 16 families were closed by 3 pm.

In Kedah, flood victim numbers dropped significantly to 416 people from 1,072 earlier in the day.

Terengganu recorded a sharp decrease with 2,634 evacuees remaining compared to 5,856 this morning across 81 relief centres.

Negeri Sembilan’s flood situation improved with 105 individuals still sheltered, down from 127 earlier.

Perak maintained the highest number of flood victims at 5,920 people, though this represented a decrease from 6,420 previously.

One relief centre in Muallim district was closed at 2 pm as conditions improved.

Pahang’s evacuation numbers declined slightly to 1,132 people from 1,390, though three river locations remained above danger levels.

Perlis saw flood victims decrease to 3,577 from 4,266 after three more relief centres closed.

Kelantan’s situation stabilised with only Pasir Mas district affected, housing 1,026 victims compared to 1,850 earlier.

Selangor recorded 3,203 evacuees remaining, down from 3,646 this morning across 35 active relief centres. – Bernama
