Lorry driver arrested after 150 km wrong-way police chase

A lorry driver high on methamphetamine drove against traffic for 150 km on the North-South Expressway while evading police, nearly causing accidents

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested a lorry driver following a dangerous 150-kilometre pursuit where he drove against oncoming traffic on the North-South Expressway.

Hulu Selangor district police chief Supt Ibrahim Husin said the incident began when the driver refused to stop for a police inspection at 5.35 am.

“The driver exited towards the North-South Expressway via the Bukit Beruntung toll plaza and drove against the flow of traffic for 150 kilometres towards the Sungai Buloh toll plaza before turning back to Bukit Beruntung,” he said in a statement.

Ibrahim confirmed the suspect attempted to ram a police mobile patrol vehicle during the pursuit near the Bukit Beruntung toll plaza.

Three police vehicles eventually intercepted and arrested the driver at Taman Bunga Raja in Bukit Beruntung.

The suspect tested positive for methamphetamine during police screening.

Police records revealed the man had two prior criminal and drug offence convictions.

A 23-second video showing the lorry driving the wrong way on the expressway went viral on social media today.

The footage captured the vehicle nearly causing accidents while travelling against traffic flow. – Bernama
